Netball Tasmania is excited to announce that the South East Suns Netball Club will be entering the Tasmanian Netball League (TNL) for the 2023 season.
The SE Suns submitted an extremely impressive and detailed license application to the NT Board outlining their case for inclusion in the TNL.
The major strengths of their submission included
- Strength of connection with their local community
- Opportunity for netball to develop a strong hold in an local government area who’s population is rapidly expanding
- A brand-new first-rate facility in Sorell to host all matches and training
- Local government support of netball and the SE Suns
- Strong leadership and from President Marsha Batchelor and coach Andrew Jackson
Like any expansion club the Suns have a clear plan and outline for progressive improvement in on court performance. Whilst initially their focus will be on developing a talented pool of young players in their junior teams, their roster building strategy is focused on entering their ‘finals window’ in 5 years’ time.
This is an exciting addition to the TNL but more broadly it is exciting for the game of Netball in Tasmania. This is a decision that received unanimous approval from the Netball Tasmania board and was made with an eye on the future growth and sustainability of the sport. This is a wonderful opportunity for a brand-new club to grow, evolve and thrive with its local community.
