Round 9 was our first split round of the year, with Suns V Devon taking place on the 30th of March and Cripps V Cavs and Kingston V Hawks on the 5th of April. All teams will get a two-week break before heading into round 10, as athletes in our 17&U and 19&U State teams' head the National Netball Championships.
Devon 19&U followed up their solid round 8 win with another top notch four quarter effort to win 71-34. This keeps them well ahead of the pack in 3rd place on the ladder, equal in points to second placed Cripps. The Opens match was a much tighter contest, with South East Suns coming home strong in the las quarter. Devon managed to hold on, winning by the narrow margin of 5 points. A possible sign of things to come for Suns who seem to be closing the gap to the top teams on recent occasions.
Cripps 19&U didn't give the Cavaliers a look in, building their lead quarter by quarter to eventually take the win 53-41. The tables have turned for the two sides, who met each other in the Grand Final in 2024, with the Cavaliers taking the premiership. Now Cripps are looking certain to finish in the top 4 but the Cavaliers will need to turn their season around post NNC break for a chance of a rematch. Leading at half time by 6, Cripps Opens came close to giving the Cavaliers their first loss of the season. The Cavs ended up too strong, taking the win 46-42.
The 19&U Northern Hawks continue to dominate the competition, winning 48-44 against the Kingston Blues. The Hawks remain at the top of the ladder and undefeated for 2025. Kingston Blues Opens however, continue on their quest to the top. They took home a 10 goal win against the 2024 premiers, 47-37 and currently sit in second on the ladder. This was our featured match up of the round, congratulations to Kingston Blues midcourter Lucy Street for being awarded the 2XU Player of the Match for round 9.
Our Hot Shots for the round were Cripps 19&U's Ruby Clark with 41 goals, and Northern Hawks Opens' Courtney Treloar with 31 goals.
The Tasmanian Netball League now heads on a 2 week break for the National Netball Championships and Easter. We will see you again for Round 10 on the 26th of April.
