The third last round of the season was packed with Friday night blockbusters around the state!
The Northern Derby in Launceston kicked off as one of the most anticipated match ups of the season. The 19&U's top spot holders, the Northern Hawks, demonstrated their dominance with a 30-goal win, 66-36. The Open's ladder leaders, the Cavaliers remain undefeated with a 17-goal win, 56-39. The Cavaliers were on fire at both ends of the court, with GS Hayley McDougall shooting 42 from 46 attempts and Paige O'Neill in defense, who has taken out the Player of the Match for her timely intercepts. Hayley was our Hot Shot of the week for Opens this week.
Friday evening at Kingborough, Kingston Blues and Cripps started out with a bang in the 19&U's with a draw. Cripps come out of the blocks confidently, winning the first three quarters. Kingston clawed their way back into the game in the last quarter. Cripps were one down with 16 seconds to go, GS Ruby Clark shot a goal with 4 seconds to go to get the score back equal. The game ended 45-45. The Opens Kingston side, despite some recent injuries, managed a solid win over Cripps by 21 goals, 59-38.
Suns and Karana came out of the evening with one win each. Karana 19&U's took a percentage boosting win, 79-24. GS Ebony McGinniss shot 39 from 41 attempts to claim the Hot Shot of the round for the 19&U's. The South East Suns Opens team took out their third win of the season against Karana, 57-31.
