Round 18 has finally wrapped up after being split across two weekends.
To kick off the round, Karana took on Hawks on their home court and Kingston met Devon at their home court.
Top of the table, the 19&U Northern Hawks were up by 8 at quarter time against Karana. They followed up with 15 goals in both the second and third quarters to lock in the win, 59-29. The Hawks have so far lost only 1 game this season, which means they have secured top spot on the ladder and with only round remaining they cannot be knocked off.
The Hawks Opens took away a confidence building win from the round, grabbing the win 79-19 from Karana. With their position in third guaranteed, the team will now look towards finals to prepare to defend their 2024 premiership title. Our Opens Hot Shot of the Round was the Northern Hawks, Courtney Treloar shooting 54 from 63 attempts.
Devon 19&U's caused the upset of the round, winning against the Kingston Blues 49-42. Devon now sits in second on the ladder, but their place is not secure, and they will have to approach the last 2 matches with the drive to win.
A close one in the Opens, Kingston led by 6 at quarter time, but Devon stuck around and clawed their way back goal by goal. Devon won the last quarter by 7 goals, but it wasn't quite enough to get the win with Kington Blues locking in a 3-goal victory, 51-48. In our featured match of the week, our Player of the Match was Kingston's Emily Handley.
In the final matchup of the round, both the 19&U and Opens Cavaliers cruised to victory. The 19&U's won 88-23 and the Opens 65-34. Our 19&U Hot Shot of the Round was Cavaliers, Amaya Summers shooting 32 from 37 attempts.
