After an extremely well-received Suncorp Super Netball (SSN) League practice-match was held at the Derwent Entertainment Centre (DEC) earlier this month, Netball Tasmania are excited to host another array of first-class Netball matches across the state with the inaugural TNIS.
The TNIS will see Wales, Northern Ireland, Collingwood Magpies and the Tasmanian Magpies battle it out in a series of friendlies ahead of their respective Commonwealth Games, SSN and ANL competitions.
This will be the second time in three years that Wales will travel to the state for their international preparations – having previously been to Tasmania to prepare for the Netball World Cup in 2015.
There will be two nights of matches in Launceston on Tuesday 27th and Thursday 29th March along with the final day of matches being played in Hobart on Saturday 31st March.
Netball Tasmania CEO Aaron Pidgeon said the TNIS provides the Tasmanian Netball community with another excellent opportunity to experience first-class Netball live.
‘Having both International and SSN teams participating, as well as the opportunity to see Tasmania’s best talent in the Tassie Magpies program, should prove a really attractive proposition for fans and I’m confident that everyone in attendance will enjoy themselves.’
‘We’re working in some NetSetGo opportunities for our junior Netballers, as well as some fun activities to coincide with the pending Easter break, so it should be good fun for the kids.’
‘If we want to continue to host these events in Tasmania then it’s really important that the community gets behind the event and we see big crowds in attendance, and if recent events are anything to go by then we expect that will be the case’.
The inaugural series is a competition that Netball Tasmania hopes to run on a yearly basis, playing host to international, SSN or institutional teams.
Tickets to the matches vary on each given day dependent on fixture and the respective venue ticketing setup. Ticket prices have been set to encourage those from around the state to come along and support the event and Netball in Tasmania.
