Waratahs shooter Kristina Brice spearheaded her side to an 80-26 victory over the Canberra Darters at Sydney’s Anne Clark Centre on Saturday night and a 70-31 win against the Tassie Spirit on Sunday.
Brice shot 63 goals at 93 per cent accuracy against the Darters and then backed up with 58 goals at 99 per cent accuracy against the Spirit as the Waratahs, runners up last season, made the perfect start to the season.
Defending champions the Victorian Fury also made an unbeaten start to their title defence and stretched their winning streak to 14 after claiming two victories across in Perth.
The Fury defeated hosts the Western Sting 51-35 on Saturday night and proved too strong for the Territory Storm on Sunday, winning 67-28.
The loss to the Fury was the Sting’s only defeat of the round as the WA side scored a 67-33 win over the Storm and then toppled the Victorian Flames 52-40 on Sunday.
Former Australian Diamond Kate Beveridge shot 33 goals at 90 per cent accuracy in the victory against the Flames.
The Sting sit inside the top four at the completion of round two.
The game of the round was played in Sydney between the Tassie Spirit and Netball NSW Blues with the visitors claiming a thrilling one-goal victory 48-47.
In a match where the lead ebbed and flowed, the Spirit were able to hold out the Blues in the final minutes to claim a crucial victory that keeps them in touch with the top four.
Tassie shooter Sophie Gunn finished the match with 40 goals at 84 per cent accuracy.
The QLD Fusion and Southern Force had the bye.
