After falling short to the Netball New South Wales Waratahs yesterday, the Tasmanian Magpies took on the Canberra GIANTS this morning to see who would take third spot on the podium.
The #TASMAGS came out strong, similar to yesterday’s performance, but another missed goal on the whistle saw the 2018 premiers hold just a one-goal lead at quarter time [12-11].
GIANTS fired back in the second quarter, as they jumped out to a four-goal lead. However, a change in the GS position with 175cm Zoe Claridge taking over from 201cm Jane Cook was a massive game changer.
Shooting 8/8, Claridge, along with tight defensive from Brooke Allan, Maddie Stewart and Mel Bragg was crucial to the four-goal lead that the Tassie Magpies held at half-time [30-26].
But in a see-sawing game, the Canberra GIANTS gave it their all during the third to win the quarter and see the Tassie Magpies hold just a one-goal lead heading into the final term [41-40].
Continued defensive pressure all down the court and neat feeding from Shelby Miller (C) and Vanessa Augustini (WA) contributed to a dominant last quarter that saw the Tassie Magpies take the win by nine goals [59-50].
This season has proven successful with not only a podium finish but plenty of court time and exposure for the Tasmanian based athletes, with all athletes playing their part at any given time.
