Tasmania first entered the league when it launched in 2009, then known as the Tassie Spirit – in a standalone format. In which the best the team ever achieved was 7th place, with never more than three wins in a season.
Since partnering with the Collingwood Magpies in 2017, the team has exceeded expectations both on the court and also in regards to the opportunities and performance of Tasmanian athletes on national stage.
The team as one, whether from Victoria or Tasmania, have developed a great culture and are proud to play for the Tasmanian Magpies. With 10 wins and 4 losses for the 2018 season, the team finished in third place to secure themselves a finals berth.
Leading the team for the first time as head coach is Kate Upton. Who said that the team are super excited at the opportunity they have created for themselves.
“Making the finals give us belief that the program and partnership is working between the two states.”
The team will take on NNSW Waratahs in the first semi-final, of whom they beat in both matches back in round 4.
“Waratahs have a never give up approach, with great depth within their squad. For us this weekend our main focuses will be consistency in the delivery of our attacking and defensive play.” She said.
Results from both semi-finals on the Saturday will determine the medal matches to be plated on Sunday.
