The Board of Netball Tasmania is delighted to announce the appointment of Penny Shearer as our new Chief Executive Officer.
Following a rigorous national recruitment process, Penny joins Netball Tasmania from her most recent role as Executive Officer of Netball Northern Territory, where she has earned a reputation as a dynamic and respected leader. Her career reflects a strong commitment to the growth and sustainability of netball. Whilst saddened to lose Penny’s expertise, Netball Northern Territory Board Chair, Catherine Sansom was comforted by the fact she wouldn’t be lost to the sport.
Penny brings with her a wealth of experience in the netball ecosystem, underpinned by academic qualifications in Recreation, Planning and Management, and Exercise and Sports Science. This complementary combination of practical experience and academic insight positions her to lead Netball Tasmania into its next phase of growth. Most recently, Penny added another string to her bow, attaining her High Performance coaching accreditation, which will support the continued development of elite netball pathways in Tasmania.
The Board are confident that Penny’s leadership will not only strengthen our already dynamic operational team but also inspire growth and innovation across our community. Penny has a demonstrated ability to build strong and authentic connections with stakeholders, including staff, volunteers, government, sponsors, and the broader netball community.
Reflecting on her appointment, Penny shared her enthusiasm and vision for the future. "I’m honoured to step into the CEO role with Netball Tasmania and lead an incredible team into the next chapter of growth and opportunity within the sport. I look forward to the journey ahead and am grateful for the trust placed in me."
“It is with much enthusiasm and a real sense of optimism for our future that we welcome Penny to Netball Tasmania,” said Chair, Jacqui Lockwood. “We are thrilled to have her onboard and know she will be a wonderful addition to our team and to the wider netball family here in Tasmania. We would also like to extend thanks to Tracy Jones who has ably led Netball Tasmania as interim CEO. We are pleased that Tracy will remain an integral part of the organisation as we enter a new era.”
Penny will officially commence her role as CEO on Monday 13th October 2025.
