We are excited to be able to announce Tasmanian First Nations athlete, Sophie Brewer, will be heading to the 2024 Australian Netball Championships as part of the First Nations Invitational Netball Team, the Black Swans. Brewer, TNL 19’s Grand Final MVP, got the phone call from Head Coach Ali Tucker-Munro herself to let her know she would be attending as a Black Swan.
“When I got the call from Ali I was also so excited to be given the chance represent my family and fellow Wiradjuri people with other talented indigenous athletes from other areas around Australia”
Netball Australia recently debuted their First Nations Invitational Netball Team. The inaugural team took the court for the first time at the Pacific Netball Series in June this year. The second outing for the Black Swans will be at ANC 2024 from the 25th to the 28th of August at the Solar Hub ACT Netball Centre, located in the Australian Capital Territory.
Brewer’s selection showcases another young Tasmanian flying the flag for high performance sport in our state. We look forward to being able to provide more First Nations athletes with opportunities to represent Tasmania when the inaugural Tasmanian First Nations team is announced in the coming weeks.
