Netball Australia National High Performance Pathway Manager and 17/U selector Stacey West said the selection panel, which also included Cathy Fellow and Lenore Blades, were spoilt for choice with the quality of netball the athletes played at the Championships.
This year’s 17/U National squad will regroup at Netball Australia’s Centre of Excellence at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) in May for a training camp with all eight state and territory coaches, Australian Diamonds coach Lisa Alexander and Diamonds assistant Michelle den Dekker.
“The calibre of talent we had available for selection was very impressive and I am very happy with who we have selected,” West said.
“The opportunity for these young promising athletes to work with some of the country’s most experienced coaching and support staff at the Centre of Excellence will be very beneficial for their ongoing growth and development for the future.”
Hannah Lee plays for Devon in the ANZ State Netball League and represented Tasmania at National Championship level in 2012/2013 (15&U) and 2014 (17&U). Kaitlin Petrie has represented Tasmania in 2013 (15&U) at National Championships and is a member of the Karana Flames ANZ State League team.
Tasmania enjoyed one their most successful National Netball Championships with the Tasmanian 19 & under side finishing an impressive 5th after twice defeating Queensland in both the round robin and finals matches. The 17 & under side finished 6th following a narrow defeat to Western Australia in the final match.
