Netball Tasmania are excited to announce Tasmania’s participation in the new ‘Play-In Tournament’ to take place in June 2025. The ‘Play-In Tournament’ will see Tasmania, ACT and the Northern Territory compete in a three-day tournament leading into the Super Netball Reserves Finals Weekend.
Netball Tasmania are thrilled to have another opportunity for Tasmania Wild to be back on the court. With a changed Australian Netball Championships format and lack of other opportunities for the Wild to suit up in 2024, the ‘Play-In Tournament’ and Super Netball Reserves Finals Weekend is a welcome addition to the calendar.
Lauren Mills, Netball Tasmania Performance Pathways Manager and Tasmania Wild Head Coach, Jon Fletcher are eager for the opportunity to showcase Tassie’s athletes against opposition from across the country. We are thrilled for the Tasmania Wild to return to the court in 2025 in a competition format that provides a fantastic opportunity to further showcase upcoming exciting Tasmanian talent on the Super Netball Reserves stage".
CEO of Netball Tasmania, Mitch Coulson echoes the excitement. “It’s great to have a national tournament to test ourselves against other states and SN Reserve squads. It’s essential to have something for our athletes to work towards which provides a platform for us to display the incredible netball talent we have here in Tasmania.”
The Finals Weekend and new ‘Play-In Tournament’ will take to Melbourne’s Waverley Netball Centre this June for a full week of elite netball magic. The week will not only see the eight Super Netball Reserves teams contend, but also teams from Tasmania, ACT and the Northern Territory. Tasmania, ACT and the Northern Territory will compete in a ‘Play-In Tournament’ in the week leading into the Finals Weekend, playing once against each other across three days.
The results from these matches will be used to determine their matchups against Super Netball Reserves teams during Finals Weekend. The format of the 2025 tournament supports the development of local talent pathways across Australia through exposure to higher level competition.
Finals Weekend, held between June 20 – 22, will see all state based and Super Netball affiliated teams compete in three sessions for fans to attend. The 2025 Super Netball Reserves champion will be crowned at the end of the weekend in a Grand Final match.
Netball Tasmania will be holding open trials for Tasmania Wild in 2025. Registrations for these trials will open Tuesday 22nd of April. Open trials for all those who register will be held on Sunday the 4th of May.
