It will see our players return from a disappointing loss against the Canberra Giants, going down 52-29 in the first match, and again on the Sunday, 52-72 and will give our Magpies an opportunity to redeem themselves against some quality opposition in South Australia’s Southern Force.
A President’s Function will take place before the match on Saturday 11 March and the Honourable Will Hodgman, Premier of Tasmania and Minister for Sport and Recreation, will officially open the Tasmanian Netball League.
Also in attendance will be President of Netball Tasmania, Liz Banks, Netball Tasmania CEO, Julia Phillips, Collingwood Magpies Senior Coach, Kristy Keppich-Birrell and Collingwood Magpies General Manager of Netball, Jennifer McIntyre.
Head Coach of the Tasmanian Magpies, Jon Fletcher says this first match in Tasmania “is a great opportunity to play some fantastic netball in front of a home crowd.”
Fletcher also acknowledged that this round will prove a challenge for our Magpies who are currently sixth on the ladder and are up against fourth-placed Southern Force.
“But hopefully with the support of our Tasmanian fans, our girls will pull through.”
Defender Emma Johns looks forward to the first match in Tasmania but notes it has been difficult for the group to train across two states.
“All our fans here in Tasmania are looking forward to watching the match and we are hoping for a big crowd to help us get over the line.”
“It’s been a challenge particularly with the team being separated for trainings. But all players have been working hard in their states and we hope this will be reflected in this week’s match.”
Game 1 will be on Saturday 11 March at 5pm, with Game 2 on Sunday 12 March at 10am. Both matches will be held at the Silverdome, Launceston. Tickets are on sale online and at the door from the Silverdome.
