Planning began with Kellie Woolnough and Ruth Tuohy co-coaching the opens team and 19U coach Rachel Oliver joining the coaching group with Kellie Tahiri (19U assistant). The plan was to raise the bar and improve on previous performances across the board.
Northern Hawks settled into pre-season with a camp at Low Head, day one players were given an introduction to the level of training and skill expected from them in 2019. The court session was followed with a recovery session at the local pool finishing with a waterslide workout. On day two team building activities provided the group with valuable insights into the art of communication and teamwork.
The three trainings leading into the break gave players a kick start ready for the January burn. The teams enjoyed (endured) some tough outdoor sessions taking full advantage of the city parks in and around Launceston.
Players began court sessions once a week after the break to sharpen up the basics and getting to know each other’s strengths. Elyse McHugh, 19U Training Partner, has been making the most of every pre-season session and building a strong base to be an option on court at this level.
After a solid preseason at KFM, the players have been put through their paces during a block of structured strength and conditioning sessions.
There has been no stone left unturned in the preparation for the 2019 RACTI League season and the Northern Hawks are looking forward to seeing the hard work pay off for the playing group with team success on the court.
