Devon Opens have retained a core group of players from last season, with five players returning for 2019. They have also added Devon local Madalyn Harris who steps up to Opens this season, after a strong year in the 19U competition finishing 3rd in the Best and Fairest count. Emily Miles, former Arrows player and State Representative returns to State League with Devon this year. While Hannah Males and Georgia Purton will be additions to the mid court, working hard to get the ball into the goalies.
Signs of good things to come from the club were seen in 2018, with the 19U side narrowly missing out on a finals berth in the last round. Retaining majority of the same team, welcoming just three new players adding depth throughout the court. The side put things to the test in the Northern pre-season carnival and will be looking to push for a top four finish in 2019.
Maureen Stafford will oversee the State League program this year, with Darren Briggs stepping up to Opens Head Coach and Kara Blizzard stepping up from assistant coach to lead the 19U side in 2019. The coaching staff have been working with the teams to improve both skills and fitness during pre-season. The club rounded out their pre-season preparations with an Amazing Race style event, which although was exhausting, was enjoyed by all.
Devon will be out in the courts in a new look dress this year. They were lucky enough to win a Holden Home Grants late last year, which has helped them with new uniforms and other aspects around the club and association.
