Local Tasmanian netball club, OHA Netball Club, has been successful in their application for an $8,000 Woolworths pick Fresh Play Fresh grant. Woolworths Pick Fresh Play Fresh Grants support grassroots netball clubs and associations across Australia.
OHA’s application to receive a Pick Fresh Play Fresh grant was for implementing a club based healthy pre-training snack and fitness program. Their plan was to make healthy, pick fresh fruit and veg based afternoon teas available to players prior to starting training of an afternoon. They had noticed that a lot of junior players are all coming straight from school to training and haven’t had an opportunity to have a snack in between, or if they do have something it is usually packaged food or from the vending machine located at the stadium.
The clubs volunteer, coaches and parents had begun purchasing healthy snack for the players to eat but with the cost of living continually rising, this was not a sustainable long-term option. OHA were thrilled to receive the $8,000 grant to be able to continue to fuel their young players whilst also teaching them about why we choose fresh fruit and veg to fuel our bodies and how it keeps us healthy.
OHA will also utilise a portion of the grant to purchase a set of fitness and agility equipment, in order to implement a fitness program in addition to their usual training sessions. The equipment will be utilised to set up a different fitness circuit each week in conjunction with the afternoon tea program.
OHA were the only club in Tasmanian to receive one of the 10 x Woolworth Pick Fresh Play Fresh Grants. Congratulations to the club and we look forward to seeing them continue to reap the rewards.
