The best players in the state will be shown weekly after News Corp and Netball Tasmania strike a three-year deal to live stream the 1st Energy Tasmanian Netball League on KommunityTV.
Tasmania’s premier netball competition is coming LIVE to you. Get a weekly double dose of action from the 1st Energy Tasmanian Netball League from March 17.
Thanks to a new three-year partnership between Netball Tasmania and News Corp Australia, KommunityTV is set to LIVE STREAM two games per week on the Hobart Mercury website.
The deal will run until the conclusion of the 2025 TNL season and will include match of the round doubleheaders in both the under 19 and open competitions.
The stream will be exclusive for News Corp subscribers and on demand replays of every live streamed game will be available after fulltime.
And in a huge bonus, subscribers get two doubleheaders to enjoy on the opening weekend, with live streams set for both March 17 and March 19.
Coverage will go beyond simply showing the live stream, with The Mercury set to deliver weekly TNL-based content, which includes a preview of that week’s stream games along with player interviews and stories on the competition’s best and brightest young stars.
Netball Tasmania boss Mitchell Coulson trumpeted the deal as an “enormous boost” for the sport.
“Netball Tasmania are absolutely thrilled to be partnering with Kommunity TV to live stream a section of 1st Energy Tasmanian Netball League matches throughout 2023,” he said.
“This is a transformational partnership for netball in Tasmania that will provide an enormous boost in coverage for the whole sport via news corps media channels/outlets.
“A key part of netball Tasmania’s strategy is boosting the coverage of our sport and sharing the stories of our athletes, this partnership will allow us to do that in spades and will help build the profiles of the next generation of elite Tasmanian netballers.”
News Sport Network managing director Michael Wilkins said the partnership was another step in News Corp Australia’s commitment to the sport from the grassroots to the world stage.
“Since KommunityTV’s inception in 2022, we have built a proven track record of partnering with some of the best netball bodies in Australia, and we are excited to add another in Netball Tasmania,” Wilkins said.
“It is an opportunity to extend our netball coverage in Tasmania, off the back of our renewed push to cover the best in the sport across News Corp Australia’s multiple sporting platforms, most notably Code Sports.
“Our streaming partnership will not only include the best netballers in the Open age group, but also the rising stars of Tasmania’s junior ranks in the U19 competition.
“Off the back of the launch of our female and gender-diverse sports series, Insight Sport, it is fitting timing to increase our live stream coverage of women’s sports at the grassroots level with our Netball Tasmania partnership.”
