In a huge coup for netball in the Huon Valley, all members of the association aged 14 to 20 will now not have to make a financial contribution to play the game in 2024. This is thanks in large part to the securing of funding by President Bianca Jackman and Secretary Felicity Donato, who have been working tirelessly to allow youth in the region to access sport without a financial barrier. Such funding opens a world of opportunities for youth, fostering personal growth, physical well-being, and a sense of community.
The funding received from a pilot grant program delivered locally supports the holistic development of youth in the region, allowing regular engagement in physical activity and fitness, skill development and building connections and networks. Targeting this critical age bracket was key for the association for many reasons.
“We value encouraging junior and young adult participation in the region and feel strongly about having people who live in the Huon Valley playing for the Huon Valley Netball Association. This funding resource is more than just financial assistance, it is a commitment to the growth and development of our younger players, which is one of our small club's goals over the next three years. It is important to us that all young people are provided with the opportunity to play sport, and strongly encourage anybody who might be hesitating due to financial constraints to please reach out. The Community Bank Huon Valley is always eager to support sport participation and we can explore alternative funding opportunities to assist financially. We're appreciative of the positive impact that this opportunity has had on the Huon Valley Netball Association and those players who have been financially supported” states Bianca Jackman, President of Huon Valley Netball Association (HVNA).
The pivotal role of funding cannot be understated. 17&U Boys and 21&U 3 can now participate in the Southern Tasmanian Netball Association Winter Roster free from the burden of fees.
Secretary Felicity Donato emphasized the significance of targeting this critical age bracket within the association.
“This age group represents a crucial stage in personal development, and by removing financial barriers, the HVNA aims to create a positive and enriching environment where young individuals can thrive both on and off the netball court.”
The value of sports, particularly netball, as a vehicle for instilling discipline, teamwork, and resilience is limitless. Huon Valley Netball Association’s vision aligns with the broader objectives of promoting a healthy and active lifestyle among the local youth, fostering a generation of well-rounded individuals who are not only skilled on the netball court but also equipped with the essential life skills needed for success in various aspects of their lives.
