Collingwood’s Super Netball team is pleased to announce it has extended its partnership with the Tasmanian Government for a further three years.
Since the inception of the partnership in 2017, the relationship between Collingwood and Events Tasmania has driven participation in netball from a grassroots level and has also created elite pathway outcomes for netballers in the state.
The partnership will continue to bring world-class netball games to Tasmania with Collingwood set to host pre-season matches on Thursday, February 2 and Friday, February 3 at Silverdome in Launceston with the Club returning in Round 14 of the Super Netball season to face the West Coast Fever on Saturday, June 17 at MyState Bank Arena in Hobart.
Collingwood and the Tasmanian Government have committed to initiatives that aim to continually increase netball participation with Collingwood Super Netball players and coaches to be involved in delivering community and development clinics in Tasmania.
Collingwood’s Acting CEO Graham Wright acknowledged the Tasmanian State Government for its ongoing commitment and support of netball.
“The Club has had a great partnership with the Tasmanian Government over the past six years and is proud of the opportunities it has created for netballers,” Wright said.
“We are also very appreciative of the support we have received from the Tasmanian Government – particularly their ongoing commitment to our Club during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We thank Minister Nic Street and the Tasmanian Government for their continued investment in our netball program and we look forward to building on the experience and momentum gained throughout the partnership to date.”
Collingwood’s General Manager Netball Amie Quirk said the extension of the partnership is exciting for both the Club’s Super Netball players as well as Tasmanian-based Members and fans.
“Netball remains the most popular team sport for women and girls in Australia and we look forward to bringing the elite game to Tasmania in 2023 and beyond,” Ms Quirk said.
“This partnership has created a strong and passionate Collingwood fan-base in Tasmania who are extremely dedicated supporters, and we are pleased to return next season for two pre-season games, our Round 14 match and to host a series of community events to inspire the next generation of netballers.
“Our team loves playing in front of the incredible crowds in Tasmania who always generate an electric atmosphere at our games.
“While we look forward to showcasing elite netball games in Tasmania, we’re also excited about the opportunity for our netballers to promote the State as a travel destination.”
Tasmania’s Minister for Hospitality and Events Nic Street said he was pleased to extend the partnership.
“The continuation of our partnership will give Tasmanians access to elite netball content in their own backyard, and also importantly provide young Tasmanians with exposure to elite female athletes competing at a national level.”
“I’m also pleased to confirm that games will be played in the north and south of the state each year. I urge all Tasmanians to take advantage of this unique opportunity and head along to show your support to the Collingwood Magpies in 2023 and beyond”.
