Round 13 begins early due to Easter as the race for finals heats up in the ANZ STATE LEAGUE. No fewer than four teams are locked together on 7 wins and 14 points so each game takes an increased significance.
MYRTYLE RIDGE NORTHERN HAWKS kick off the weeks action when they host OPSM DEVON at the Silverdome on Wednesday night. Hawks off a strong win over Cripps last weekend will be favoured to account for the winless Devon and increase their hold on a top four position still with a game in hand. Hawks playing coach Steffi Grenda is keen for her side to improve in some key areas and will need to cover the loss of Meg Dennis in mid court.
“We are looking to run a few different combinations due to changes in our line up since losing Meg (Dennis). There are some key areas that need work which were evident from the weekend’s games and we will be looking to make some positives changes in these areas.”Grenda said.
GLENDON KINGSTON BLUES go in search of their third win of the season when they welcome a CRIPPS WARATAH side desperate to regain their spot in the top four. Equal on points but having played an extra game than the three sides above them on the ladder this game shapes as a must win for Cripps the 2014 premiers. Kingston has been competitive in most games but have not been able to convert this to wins against higher ranked sides.
ST LUKES KARANA FLAMES moved in to the top four for the first time in 2015 after accounting for Cripps in round 13 but face the competition benchmark in AYC- FRIENDS LEXUS ARROWS in the rounds most intriguing match up. Arrows unbeaten in 12 games with a healthy percentage off over 200% go in to the game as favourites but will need to be at their best against a Karana side who have beaten Cripps and Cavaliers in recent weeks. Arrows coach Andrew Jackson acknowledges that match is likely to be tight and that the side who’s attach makes the most of their chances will be the winner.
“Karana have been in good form in the last few weeks and we will need to be at our best to beat them. Interesting match ups all over the court, but it will come down to which goalies can make the most of their opportunities.” Jackson said
In the rounds final match BURNIE TIGERS meet BELLAMY ORGANIC CAVALIERS in a game that top two aspirant Cavaliers will be favoured to win but Burnie are a team on the improve and have been difficult to beat at home this season. Cavaliers will be keen to take good form in to their round 14 match against rivals Northern Hawks.
