In the evenings early match Country Club Cavaliers faces Cripps Waratah for the 19 and under State League title. Cripps 19 and under side have done it long way around like their senior counterparts by qualifying for the decider from outside the top two.
Lexus Arrows have had the advantage of the week off in the lead up to the Grand Final courtesy of a victory over Cavaliers week one of the finals. They also hold the season record over Cripps with two wins from their previous three meetings. Arrows coach Andrew Jackson said his team had enjoyed the week off using it to freshen up and would be ready to go come game time Saturday evening.
“We’ve have had the week off and we have used it to do a few different things with our training but our preparation has been good and we will be ready to go” Jackson said.
Cripps has done it the long way to the decider with victories over northern sides Hawks and Cavaliers to make the decider. Cripps coach Aaron Pidgeon will be hoping that these victories have steeled his side and have them ready to compete with the bench mark team of 2014 in Arrows. He will be able to call on a fully fit Sophia Saunders who has put her ankle injury cloud behind her declaring herself 100% fit.
Both coaches believe that the macth will be won and lost by who wins the high profile battle of the Arrows attack lead by Kate Costelloe and a Kirra Parsons lead Cripps defence. The experienced captains both perennial Australian Netball League representatives with the Tassie Spirit will both be hoping to lead their sides to victory.
“The match could well be decided by if our defensive end can hold at bay and get on top of their quality attacking end’ Cripps coach Pidgeon said.
Kirra Parsons having tasted success in 2008 with Cripps is keen for some of her younger team mates to experience the feeling of playing in a winning premiership.
“Some of our players have never played in Grand Final and those who have were losses to Arrows and Cavaliers. It would be incredible for them to win and experience the celebrations that go with that’ Parsons said
