This weekend they will take on third placed NSW Waratahs. The NSW side come off a split round result with ladder leaders VIC Fury during round 4 of the DUANL.
Vice-Captain Shelby Miller acknowledged that this will be one of the biggest weekends for the team.
“I think the girls are looking forward to a good hard hit out on court. That’s why we love playing at this level because it pushes you to work for every little win on court.”
“The Waratahs are always a fit and relentless team that push through the full four quarters” she said.
In order to take the points this week, strong full court links and multiple options for the ball carrier were mentioned as crucial.
“I also think that we play our best netball when we are confident to let the ball go and use our foot speed and change of pace through ball movement” explained Miller.
With just three rounds remaining, with the Waratahs, Fury and Storm the teams still to face, the #TASMAGS currently sit second, with seven wins from their eight matches.
“Seven from eight wins is a positive first half to the season” Miller said.
“However, we had a discussion last week that although we are winning games, we don’t think we are playing to our full potential yet and that is really exciting.”
This weekend will see the permanent return of co-captains Mel Bragg and Kelsie Rainbow to the team, after stints as temporary replacement players with the Collingwood Magpies in SSN.
Current acting Captain, Miller, is excited by the return of her senior teammates.
“We have embraced the team each week as it was named, but it will be nice to have the base group back together and settle into some connections on court with one another.”
“The girls get along fantastic on and off the court so we can’t wait to see what we are capable of over the next two games.”
The team will be a part of a DUANL double header this weekend, with the Canberra GIANTS and Territory Storm also taking the court at the Genea Netball Centre for two matches.
