The newly structured program, the Elite Development Squads (EDS), is a tiered pathway program designed to provide a graduated experience to help build junior athlete aspirations for elite Netball opportunities and to assist the athletes to make transition through a more structured talent development program, which is crucially linked to a high performance SSN program.
Tier 1 is made up of Tasmanian Magpies athletes and training partners and operates on an annual cycle with personalized support from the Tasmanian Institute of Sport.
Tier 2 is predominantly 16-19 year old athletes who have been identified through the State League Competition and underage National Championship performance – also with support from the TIS.
In addition to athletes, Netball Tasmania, is offering the state’s first TIS supported umpire performance pathway program.
Tier 3 is predominantly targeting 14-16 year old athletes, aiming to bring them into a performance pathway program at a young age and ideally develop them for continuous years (subject to performance).
Netball Tasmania Performance Pathway Manager, Alliston Turner, is excited that all the spots have been offered and finalized and that training is set to begin.
