We officially enter the second round of the roster with round 8, each team has played each other once and we now circle back to do it all again!
Round 8 also saw the first Umpire Appreciation Round in the TNL with umpires being recognised across the state for their dedication to one of the most important roles on a netball court. Throughout the week we shared the stories of a couple of our up-and-coming umpires, be sure to check them out in our recent news.
Aside from celebrating our umpires, there were some upsets on court this week. Our defending 19&U premiers turned it up a notch after a tough start to the season. The Cavaliers had previously only secured one win so far in 2025. A stark contrast to their 2024 season. Heading into the match against Kingston Blues, it's fair to say Kingston were the favourites. Kingston had been strong all season, sitting in 2nd on the ladder with 4 wins. It was an excellent match of skill, but in the end, Kingston couldn't claw from a first quarter blow out and the Cavaliers won 49-41. The Opens was similar story, although ladder leaders Cavaliers were challenged early, they managed to build on their lead quarter by quarter to take a 5-point win, 54-49. GS Hayley McDougall was once again unstoppable, our Opens Hot Shot for the 5th time this season.
The Hawks V Cripps was a must win for Cripps in both the 19&U and Opens. The 19&U's fought hard to start the match, but after half time the Hawks came out blazing. Two massive quarters gave them a 14-point win to maintain top spot on the ladder and continue on undefeated for the 2025 season. Our 19&U Hot Shot this week was Cripps Waratah, Ruby Clark with 32 goals.
The Cripps Opens team needed a win to stay in the fight for a top 4 spot. They had their work cut out for them against the 2ndon the ladder Hawks, but we're determined and in through consistency and confidence, took the win 43-36. This was our featured match of the round, congratulations to 2XU Player of the Match Alex Vinen for her steadfast defense in GK.
In our final match up of the round Karana took on Devon. Karana 19&U have been going from strength to strength in previous rounds, but couldn't find the extra precision needed to overcome Devon. Devon's GS Lily Padman and GS Shukuya Broomhall dominated 30 and 25 goals respectively. The Devon Opens were looking for their opportunity to sneak into the top 4 and with a 21 goal win they managed to take one step closer.
