Round 5 delivered action across both the 19U and Opens competitions, with several dominant performances and a couple of tightly contested matches keeping fans engaged across Thursday and Friday night.
Cripps Waratah U19’s put together a commanding performance at the Hobart Netball and Sports Centre, defeating Karana Flames71–25. Cripps dominated the match from the opening stages, combining strong defence with efficient scoring to secure a comfortable victory. Ruby Clark locked in her first Hot Shot of the season, scoring 43 goals from 48 shots with 89% accuracy.
Kingston Blues continued their strong form with a convincing 67–27 win over the South East Suns. The Blues were consistent across all four quarters, steadily building their lead with disciplined play.
Friday night saw the closest match of the 19U round, where the Cavaliers held off the Northern Hawks 45–38 at the first northern derby of the season. In a competitive contest, the Cavs managed to create separation late in the game and held firm to secure the win.
In the Opens competition, Cripps Waratah delivered another dominant performance, defeating Karana Flames 70–26 on Thursday night at the Hobart Netball and Sports Centre.
The tightest Opens match of the round came at the South East Sports Complex, where Kingston Blues edged out the South East Suns39–35. It was a closely fought contest from start to finish, with the Blues fighting back in the final stages to secure the four-point victory.
On Friday night, the Northern Hawks claimed a solid 57–45 win over the Cavaliers. The Hawks built momentum through the middle quarters and maintained their advantage to finish strongly. Despite the loss, Hayley McDougall comes away with her second 100% accuracy game of the season, shooting 32 from 32. At the other end of the court, Sophie Sherriff takes home this rounds MVP with her dominant display in GA for the Hawks.
