Round 17 was close one all round for the majority of our games.
Karana 19&U's have been building throughout the season, whilst still sitting in 6th place, they have challenged many of the teams sitting above them and this week was no exception. After a strong first quarter from Devon, Karana steadied for a solid next three. In the end, Devon had another dominant quarter in the 4th and nabbed the win 49-32. This nudged the north west team closer to securing 2nd place on the ladder ahead of finals.
The Opens Devon vs Karana match was a key one for Devon to make an impact. Starting strong with a 13-goal win, they continued to build on this quarter by quarter. Devon eventually secured the win, 72-28, a great percentage boost for their finals campaign.
In the upset of the round, the 5th placed 19&U Cavaliers won their match against the 3rd placed Kingston Blues. A 11-17 second quarter secured the win for the Cavs, winning by 2 49-47.
Due to the Play-In Tournament and Super Netball Reserves Finals Weekend taking place from the 16th to the 22nd, the match scheduled between Kingston Blues Opens and Cavaliers Opens did not take place. Each club made the decision to split the points.
19&U Northern Hawks had their first loss in round 17. Cripps burst out of the blocks in the first quarter, leading by 3 at quarter time. Another dominant quarter in the 2nd all but secured them the win. The final score was 50-45. Our 19&U Hot Shot of the round was Cripps GS, Ruby Clark who shot 39/43.
A yoyoing match in the Opens resulted in the first draw of the season. A true testament to why these two teams and in 3rd and 4th on the ladder. The Opens Hot Shot of the round was Cripps' Bellah Parker, shooting 33/35. Congratulations to Player of the Match Stephanie Gunton for her hard work in the centre court.
