This weekend the TNL acknowledged First Nations round, where clubs donned designed bibs and played with a ball specially designed by Tjalan Langdon to mark the occasion. Thank you to all those who attended matches across the weekend and helped pay respects to the traditional owners of the lands on which we played.
Devon 19&U's made a play to claim the Northern Hawks first loss of the season. Devon has a strong 2nd quarter to go into half time only down by 1. The Hawks consistency throughout the last half ensured they would add another win to the tally, finally securing the match 44-40.
Sitting in 3rd spot on the ladder, the Northern Hawks are doing all they can to keep their chances alive of a late charge into 2nd. With Dani Laugher back from injury, the goalies looked stronger than ever. The Hawks took a 53-32 win against Devon.
Next up around the state was the South East Suns vs Kingston Blues in Sorell. Kingston Blues U19's burst out of the blocks with a 10 goal lead in the first quarter. Building quarter by quarter, they came away with a 39 goal win. Suns Open came ready to take it to the 2nd placed Blues, finishing the first quarter only 3 behind. Nicole Hunt once again shot away, locking her team into an eventual 43 goal win. Nicole is our Hot Shot of the week for Opens, scoring 49 goals from 52 shots.
Our featured match of the round was Cripps V Karana at the Hobart Netball & Sports Centre. Cripps is currently sitting 3rd in the 19&U's and 4th Opens ladders. At this late stage of the season, the club will be working hard to lock themselves into the finals. They come away from this round with 2 solid wins. The 19&U's won 54-40 and the Open's, 57-31. In the 19&U's Cripps GS Ruby Clark shot 40 goals from 43 shots to secure the Hot Shot of the round. Congratulations to Cripps Opens defence, Hannah Vinen for taking out the 2XU Player of the Match.
