Net-Week was a first for Tasmania. While it made for a busy week of clinics, meet-and-greets, school visits, media opportunities, and our final home and away round of TNL, we wouldn't have had it any other way. Having all of this packed into five days provided an incredible amount of value for our community.
Sasha Glasgow and Lauren Moore from the Mavericks toured some of Tassie's best bits, making some young netballers days along the way. From Wednesday to Sunday, the girls chatted with local netballers at an NTNA meet and greet, had some fun with netball skills, paid a visit to Rosetta Primary School, and made some media appearances along the way. Our emerging talent program was also lucky enough to have the girls attend a training session. Every person that had the chance to meet Sasha and Lauren could feel their genuine excitement to be in Tassie and engaging with our community.
Stacey Marinkovich is one of Australia’s best coaches. As part of Net-Week, our network of Tasmanian coaches had the chance to get to know Stacey and her journey and to work with her in a couple of special coaching sessions. Stacey worked closely with our U19’s Suns and Cripps teams during their final TNL home and away games of the season. Selected coaches from our TNL teams were invited to an exclusive "Insiders'' coaching session to get hands on experience of Stacey's coaching style. Throughout the weekend, Stacey worked closely with our high-performance coaches, assisting in training and even getting on the court herself for some match play. We are lucky to say we all learned something from a coach that is the best of the best across Net-Week.
The Tasmania Wild team played the curtain raiser match against the Melbourne Mavericks reserve side. It was an incredible opportunity for the girls to play at Mystate Bank Arena against high quality opposition in front of their friends and family. Even though the Mavs reserves took home the win on the day, the girls gained invaluable experience that will assist them going forward in their netball careers.
On top of these already incredible things happening, we had the Mavericks vs. Lightning SSN game at Mystate Bank Arena on Saturday night. It was an amazing first game for the Mavericks in Tassie, with our second-biggest SSN crowd ever turning out on the night. We were treated to an outstanding display of netball from both teams. The Mavericks have definitely made some life-long Tassie fans now! The Mavericks players also hosted a clinic for keen young netballers on Sunday morning. What a way to top off the week!
Netball Tasmania worked hard to be able to provide this once-in-a lifetime opportunity for our community. From coaches to umpires, grassroots to high performance, there was something for everyone during Net-Week.
