Inclusion NetSetGO introduces young Australians to the sport of netball and encourages the participation of individuals from Indigenous and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) communities. The Netball Australia initiative also caters for individuals living with a disability.
Inclusion NetSetGO allows students the opportunity to practice key netball development skills in a safe environment with their friends. In addition, the program encourages children to experience personal achievement and enhance their self-esteem. Southern Support School participation highlights their drive to deliver the best and most engaging education possible.
Southern Support School PE Teacher Bill Thompson said, ‘At Southern Support School we chose to get involved with the NetSetGO program because it provides students access to sport that can be played both socially and competitively. The support offered through the program should make it easy to meet the diverse physical, social and emotional needs of our students’.
Karadi Aboriginal Corporation has recently signed on to run the program, as well a second special education centre called Giant Steps. Netball Tasmania CEO Julia Phillips said, ’It’s excellent that Netball Tasmania has been able to partner with these organisations who are already doing great work in the community and this space. We hope through the NetSetGO program we are able to enhance and enrich their experience and education through our sport.’
Inclusion NetSetGO is offered in two formats: an 8-10 week program or a 4 week clinic. Participating schools and community-based organisations are provided access to ANZNetSetGO resources which includes session plans and a coordinator manual. Signing up to the program as opposed to the clinic qualifies your centre for a free Inclusion NetSetGO Equipment Kit or Ball Kit.
To be eligible, schools and community-based organisations will need to provide proof of Public Liability Insurance. Netball Associations may also apply to Inclusion NetSetGO. If your school or community group has the potential to reach Indigenous and CALD communities or individuals with a disability, Netball Australia may be able to deliver this program for free.
