As the season passes the quarter way point the make up of the TNL ladder is beginning to take shape. The top side Country Club Cavaliers continued on their impressive unbeaten start to the season with solid victories over Glendon Kingston Blues and St Lukes Karana Flames once again confirming their status as the team to beat in season 2014. Estelle Margetts was dominant for the Cavs against Kingston earning player of the match honours in a commanding 56 to 18 victory .
Cavaliers coach Lynda Colgrave was delighted with her side not only for earning two victories but also the manner in which they performed.
“A really good weekend with two good wins. Also pleasing was the performance and the combinations we were able to show on court.”
Kingston endured a disappointing weekend also losing to Myrtle Ridge Northern Hawks a game in which Ashton Wylie from the Hawks starred being named player of the match. Northern Hawks were able to ensure a northern clean sweep across the weekend defeating Karana in a Georgie Briggs inspired victory. Shooting at 100% (27/27) Briggs was awarded player of the match. Kellie Woolnough coach of the Hawks was pleased to come away from the weekend with 2 wins.
“Really pleased to come away with two wins is all I can say at this stage and thought Georgie was nothing short of excellent today”
Lexus Arrows and Cripps Waratah ensured that the southern sides travelling to the north west coast came away with the spoils in all 4 matches with both sides defeating OPSM Devon and Burnie Tigers across Saturday and Sunday games.
Devon coach Jo-Anne Aherne was philosophical and upbeat despite her sides win-less weekend leaving them with only one win for the season.
“We are a very young side who have been competitive in most of our games this year but are struggling at key moments against the bigger more experienced sides. The belief and improvement will come with more experience” Aherne said. Keen to emphasise that signs of improvement were evident.
Cripps coach Aaron Pidgeon was please to come away with 2 victories in a weekend that saw them without key mid court player Sophia Saunders and a road trip were they blooded several young players from the 19 & U program.
“Across the weekend the defensive effort and performing was the most pleasing aspect keeping sides to 20 and 40 respectively. We also blooded some new players which is always a positive to expose these players to a higher level”
