Netball Tasmania acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land upon which we are able to play our sport today. We recognise the land as respected ground and a place of community, and celebrate the past, present and emerging contribution of Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander people to netball in the state.
The Tasmanian Netball League hosts an annual Indigenous Round to place focus on traditional owners of the land and those who have blazed a trail in our sport before us. All clubs commemorate the occasion by wearing specially designed bibs, dresses, scrunchies or hair ribbons. Bringing into focus the cultural legacy left by past players and officials allows us to continue to better understand, raise awareness of and work towards reconciliation.
Netball Tasmania are always happy to discuss opportunities to run independent clinics to Indigenous groups around the state. Please contact enquiries@tasnetball.org.au for more information.
