There are various courses available to gain basic accreditation or for accredited coaches to move to the next level.


The coaching course structure involves a six tier system with all courses being accredited through the National Coaching Accreditation Scheme.


Foundation Coaching Course

The Foundation Coaching Course covers basic coaching principles, teaching and correcting netball and modified netball skills. It is an essential course for anyone who wishes to coach netball.

  • Roles and Responsibilities of the Coach
  • Planning and Reviewing
  • Risk Management
  • Athlete Development


  • 14 Years old
  • Online Beginning Coaching General Principles (optional but preferred)


  • 4 hours plus Online Beginning Coaching General Principles OR
  • 8 hours (not including Online Beginning coaching General Principles)

Development Coaching Course

The Development Coaching Course is aimed at those who are already coaching and want to improve their skills and achieve a higher level of accreditation.

  •     Skill Progression
  •     Technique/Skill – Ball handing, footwork and movement
  •     Technique/Skill – Attacking
  •     Technique/Skill – Defending
  •     Basic Game Strategies


  • 15 Years old at a minimum
  • Foundation Accreditation

Intermediate Coaching Course

The Intermediate Coaching Course is a practically orientated workshop aimed at those who are coaching players above the age of 14 years at club, association or regional level. The course is an excellent introduction into the practical component of the Advanced Coaching Course.

  • Minimum Age: 16 Years
  • Development coach accreditation
  • Must be a current Netball Tasmania member

Advanced Coaching Course

The Advanced Coaching Course is designed for coaches wanting to further develop their coaching skills to a level recommended for Regional, State League and State teams. This Accreditation comprises two separate courses: the “Advanced Coaching Course” and the “Level 2 General Coaching Principles Course”.

Length: two weekends plus two/three workshops and one final assessment

  • Intermediate Coach accreditation
  • Completed or received  Recognition of Prior Competency for Level Two General Coaching Principles course.
  • Must be a current Netball Tasmania member

Elite Coaching Course

The Elite Course is designed for coaches of State League and State teams and is conducted annually by Netball Australia. The course comprises a number of compulsory and optional modules with the practical components delivered in each state and the theory components delivered either on-line or by correspondence.

High Performance Coaching Course

The High Performance Coaching course equates to the former Level 3 course and is conducted annually by Netball Australia for coaches who want to reach the pinnacle of coaching.
